SEO for multiple locations

Charlie asks: For a company with many locations, do you think 1 site with subfolders for each location, or a separate site for each location is a better option for SEO?

Hi Charles,

This depends on three factors:

  1. How many locations do you have? If “many” means “10″, maybe you can look at separate sites. But if “many” means “10000″ it might not be practical.
  2. What are your resources for managing content/sites for each location? Remember that each site will have to have 100% unique content.
  3. Are these locations in different countries? Or just spread around one or two countries?

Generally, I recommend you use a single site with subfolders. If you’re working in multiple languages, you can duplicate the site into each language within the subfolder in question. If you’re working with many locations within a single country, you can use a folder for each location and have unique content for that location within the folder.

Hope this helps!
