David asks: What web sources do you go to in order to get reliable numbers and research you might need in order to back up communications (as needed) with clients and potential clients (& others) about SEO/SEM/SMM/Internet Marketing facts, data, and trends?
For example, if I needed to have solid facts about whether longer webforms cause higher abandonment rates or not, whether organic SEO beats PPC for ROI, what percentage of growth mobile is having, etc. etc. etc., do you rely on some good sources to get such data?
I know I can just perform a search on my favorite search engine, but I was wondering if perhaps you have some known-reliable go-to sources on the Internets
that you use for getting such data when needed / desired?
Hi David,
My favorite sites for this kind of information are:
- SmashingMagazine.com – They don’t always have data, but the writers are experts and can help a ton.
- MarketingSherpa.com – While their site most works to get you to buy their books (which are pricey but worth it), there’s good information to be gleaned from their articles.
- Sitetuners.wordpress.com – Tim Ash is pretty much the guy when it comes to conversion rate optimization. So check out their blog. A lot of promo stuff, but every now and then they drop some great info.
- Grokdotcom.com – Another great site for learning about conversion rates.
- SearchEngineLand.com – For the top authority in search.
There are others, but this is the best starting point. Also, watch the Fat Free Guide ‘from the feed’ area. I do try to add useful stuff there regarding latest trends, backup data, etc.
Thanks for the idea, by the way. I’m going to add a ‘useful resources’ section shortly.
